We’re all WIPs here!

I often call myself a work-in-progress. Self reflection and introspection are pertinent to improvement and development. It is only when you are aware of who you truly are, your strengths and weaknesses, can you strive to become a better version of yourself.

The first step to personal growth, is the ability to make an honest assessment of where you currently are. — Michell Pulliam

Over the period of our course, MA Service Design, we have often been asked to reflect on ourselves critically. For the Proposal Development module too, we were asked to conduct a self and peer assessment exercise.

First, I would like to think of why we were asked to do so. Perhaps, this would be the ‘before’ in a before-after comparative study. Muck like a weight loss commercial to see just how far we’ve come and progressed. Or maybe, it would prove helpful for us to answer some challenging questions about our future, vision and goals. Only once those are in sight can we strategise the way to get there.

The activity itself was quite intimidating. We had much to think about, especially it was quite difficult to disclose our strengths and weaknesses (especially) with vulnerability and transparency. But it proved to help me get clarity on skills I may develop, effort I may take and how to become a better designer. It helped me understand what different paths I could take in pursuit of my proposal and where I would be drawn to.

The best part about the assessment was to go through our peers’ sheets. It was fascinating to see how synonymous our thoughts are, and yet so different too! It was so impressive to see all the big dreams we all have for our future and filled me to the brim with optimism. Perhaps one day in a few years, we would look back at this list and feel proud of all that we’ve achieved- or surprised at how our lives took a detour! Who knows!

It was heart-warming to see my classmates leave comments on my course. I feel very privileged to have connected with them in a year that has been so uncertain and disconnected. The support, kindness and positivity that we all radiate is to be cherished.

Very excited to see where our major projects take us.
